CrossPoint... Birthed From God's Vision

It was nearly 40 years ago that a young preacher first walked through the doors of Whites Chapel Baptist Church.  The small country church would never be the same.

Phillip Ellen, just 27 years old at the time, was young and inexperienced, but eager to lead this church.  His tenure saw growth, acquisition of new land and construction of new buildings.  The church, which was far off the highway and out of town, prospered under his leadership.

CrossPoint was born in March 2000.  The circumstances of its birth are nothing short of miraculous.  However, God began the move to bring CrossPoint into existence years previously. 

Phillip Ellen and Bruce Word, co-pastors of Whites Chapel Baptist Church, started to dream.  They envisioned not only a new church-but a new kind of church.  A church built for today.  A church that knows that we live in a changing world-a dying world, desperate for answers.  A church where families can come and grow-where children feel safe and loved, where friendships are nurtured and flourish.  A church where the preaching is practical-where a person can hear a sermon today, and see its application in his life tomorrow.  A church where celebration is the order of the day-where praise is systemic and worship a passion.  A church where people can feel safe-where they can start over no matter what their past-where they are loved unconditionally.  And a church that is fun where the joy that is in us, bubbles up like a spring-where our excitement just cannot be contained.

This vision is now a reality every day at CrossPoint… A safe environment where YOU will be loved.


In March, 2000, we moved into our new facilities, on our new land, with our new methods.  And God has blessed.  We continue to grow and have now completed our second worship center on this property and more people call CrossPoint home than any other church for many miles.

And now it is time to grow again.  Over the past few years, as we have adjusted to the growth, we have been able to start a number of new ministries.  These ministries serve a vital role in the future success of CrossPoint.  Brother Phillip recently asked the CrossPoint congregation if he might step down as Senior Pastor and concentrate on these strategic growth areas.  At the same time he asked that Brother Bruce be elevated to Senior Pastor.  The congregation unanimously accepted these proposals.
